iDraw: I Don't Have a TV but I Watch Alot of Star Trek

'iDraw: I Don't Have a TV but I Watch Alot of Star Trek' digital iPod Touch self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) Even after all the different series and characters and species and adventures, if I'm going to imagine myself as a known person in that universe, it's still Mr. Spock.

Excavator Operator

I imagined that instead of Pacifc Gas & Electric waking us up at 7:30 AM all month, I was operating the equipment outside the home of the PG & E supervisor or whichever brilliant San Francisco governing board decided construction noise could start that early.

iDraw: I Imagined Myself as Edith Head

We've been having a Columbo fest, and I've been meaning to draw myself as Columbo, but tonight I couldn't resist Hollywood costume designer Edith Head, who made a guest appearance as herself on the Columbo episode we watched this evening. Seeing her we also realized that Edith clearly was the inspiration for the costume designer Edna in The Incredibles.

Seussical!

'Seussical!' pen self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) A friend is involved in a performance of Seussical but I'm not going to be able to make it to Boston to see the show. If you're closer to Boston, please check it out! Meanwhile, the invitation inspired me to imagine myself as The Cat in the Hat - fits right in with all my other hatted portraits!

iDraw: A Touch of Mink

'A Touch of Mink' digital iPod Touch self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) In honor of Halloween I imagined myself costumed for the Bergdorf Goodman fashion show in the 1962 Doris Day/Cary Grant flick 'A Touch of Mink' that we watched this evening. Kudos to AK for suggesting it!

Samurai in Color!

'Samurrai in Color!' self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) In honor of getting back on the mat, even if only for 15 minutes, I finally finished the Japantown samurai. (Here's the original pen drawing. )

Goldfinger

'Goldfinger' self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) We're having a James Bond Netflixfest here, starting with the best, the Sean Conneries. Hey, I bet he and Q would have loved an iPod Touch ;)

Samurai!

No, it's not my second degree black-belt test in Aikido, it's my face in a cardboard cut-out in San Francisco's Japantown, where we attempted unsuccessfully to run some errands this afternoon. Well, the errands failed but the unagi don and green tea ice cream were a success!

Vaccinations

'Vaccinations' self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) OK, it does look like an entry in a High School poster contest on World Health. However, it was intended to be about all the vaccinations I need to get before my trip to Thailand next month. Detail of 'Vaccinations' self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. Self Portrait as a Dancing Frog

'Dancing Frog' high school oil painting by Bay Area artist Julia Kay. Click to view same image larger.OK, it's not really a self-portrait. I just couldn't resist including it here as part of the archives. Also, I know the year but not the date. Normally I would therefore average it into June, but I know that it was done during a school semester. I'm guessing this was during the spring semester and the two darker actual self-portraits were the following winter semester.
