iDraw: This Week I Returned to Evening Aikido

' This Week I Returned to Evening Aikido' digital iPod Touch self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) Seems like I keep turning to Sketches for a quick, simple drawing. Like having magic markers or colored pencils rather than messing around with paint. I did this one in the car after class, before heading home over the bridge. Aikido was still in my body, if not in front of my eyes.

Guy's Shodan

'Guy's Shodan' self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) OK, so if I straightened out and stood up, I'd be 1.5 times Guy's height, when in reality he's taller than I am. Ah, well, it was Guy's test, but it's my portrait project

Samurai in Color!

'Samurrai in Color!' self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.) In honor of getting back on the mat, even if only for 15 minutes, I finally finished the Japantown samurai. (Here's the original pen drawing. )

Samurai!

No, it's not my second degree black-belt test in Aikido, it's my face in a cardboard cut-out in San Francisco's Japantown, where we attempted unsuccessfully to run some errands this afternoon. Well, the errands failed but the unagi don and green tea ice cream were a success!

'Diane and I Were Fooling Around at EBA' contour line self-portrait in ink by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.)
