iDraw: I Imagined Myself as Edith Head
We've been having a Columbo fest, and I've been meaning to draw myself as Columbo, but tonight I couldn't resist Hollywood costume designer Edith Head, who made a guest appearance as herself on the Columbo episode we watched this evening. Seeing her we also realized that Edith clearly was the inspiration for the costume designer Edna in The Incredibles.Labels: 2009, artist, contemporary, daily, every day, julia kay, Media: Digital, Media: iPod Colors, Media: iPod Touch, painter, portrait, Process: From Photo(s), self-portrait, Subject: Active Fantasy Life, Subject: Fictional, Subject: Narrative, Where: San Francisco (Florida St.)

iDraw: Thick and Thin with Colors
This was done this evening using Colors, the lastest drawing ap for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Warning: the rest of these comments are my ongoing review of the different drawing/ painting aps for the iPod Touch - if you're not a drawing geek, you can stop here. In any event, Colors has this neat feature where you can tilt the device to simulate pressure sensitivity so you can get a fluidly changing line thickness. In all other ways though I find Brushes to be a far superior ap for 'painting' on the iPod Touch. Colors also has some incredibly annoying interface features, such as the fact that if you change colors and draw a line, and then undo - it undoes both the line and the fact that you changed colors!!! Nevertheless, I think I will enjoy playing with the tilt to change line thickness feature and I hope this gets expanded in future versions and/or picked up by some of the other aps. It would be great to be able to set up a couple different tilts, ie left/right for one feature and up/down for another, and have a whole set of different features to choose from. Personally I'd be more interested in one that altered from light to dark rather than opaque to transparent, or where you could set any two colors and then it would range between them.
