iDraw: Sketchinz!

' Sketchinz!' digital iPod Touch self-portrait by San Francisco Bay Area artist Julia Kay. (Click to view same image larger.)This was done in Sketchinz I've been wondering for awhile if someone would come out with a program like this. It's a sort of modern-day etch-a-sketch. You have a cursor on the screen, you move it by tilting, and as it moves it draws a line.

There are a few settings for line thickness and color. You can use a photo as a background to trace, as I did here. There is no erase and no undo. If you're not using a photo you can sort of erase by using a thick white line, but there isn't anything to take you back to the underlying photo once you've made a line in any color.

My other complaint is that the setting to stop drawing so you can move the cursor to a new location is not nearly sensitive enough - it usually takes me a few hits to get it to stop drawing and meanwhile if you aren't holding your device completely still & level, it's making a line. However, the cursor moves really quite slowly so you do have quite a lot more control than you mighr expect. As a future feature though, I'd like to be able to set the speed of movement and sensitivity to tilt. Last, the website claims you can't save images in the free version. Well, you can't save hi-resolution images but you can take screen shots, as I did here. And that's my iDraw report for tonight!
