Today’s portrait is of Canadian Artist Jim Vance, known on flickr as The Jimmer. Jim has a fantastic, compelling smile in almost all his photos from babyhood to adulthood. It reaches from the corners of his mouth through the roundness of his cheeks to the twinkles in his eyes. I have not successfully caught that here and will have to try again. I’m drawn to smiles but I don’t draw them well… practice, practice, practice!

Jim works in a variety of media from traditional acrylic paint to modern digital manipulations. I love the way he experiments and develops the same image across media. I’m also a big fan of his ‘pure’ paintings; I find his built-up paint strokes very expressive.

You can see Jim’s artwork on his flickr imagestream: www.flickr.com/photos/thejimmer/
