May 2010: I intend to continue to profile contemporary artists once or twice a week. On the other days, I intend to draw… whatever I darn well feel like!

Today’s artist is Englishman Martin Beek. It’s hard to characterize Martin’s work in a few sentences, because he’s had his hands in so many things, and each so thoroughly. There are the richly colored rock formations of the American Southwest, the black and white explorations of the paintings of Cezanne, impressionist and realistic landscapes, portraits of the young and old, a photographic catalog of churches… and more! In fact there are 16,000+ items loaded onto his flickr account. Do yourself a favor and go swim in his imagestream for awhile!

You can see Martin’s artwork on his flickr imagestream:

We’re having a Portrait Party on flickr – more than 150 artists drawing each other! Here is Martin’s portrait of me from the party. If you’re an artist who’d like to draw/paint other flickr artists, please join the Portrait Party at: www.flickr.com/groups/portraitparty/
