March-April 2010, I intend to draw a different contemporary artist every day.

Today’s artist, Katarzyna Kos (Polish, currently based in Ireland), is known as Katek29 on flickr. I made five very quick drawings of her, setting myself up to have less and less control as I went. This one is a left-handed, discontinuous contour line drawing in which I didn’t look at the paper while drawing – the least amount of control. This technique is often called blind contour, but I reserve that phrase for when I close my eyes and look at neither model nor drawing.

Kate’s own work ranges from still lives and landscapes to beautiful portraits with fine, delicate lines and subtle cross-hatching. She works in a variety of drawing media as well as watercolor. Usually I’m keen on bold colors, but in her work I’m drawn to the pieces with a more toned-down palette.

You can see Kate’s artwork on her flickr imagestream:

JuliaWe’re having a Portrait Party on flickr – more than 150 artists drawing each other! Below is Kate’s portrait of me from the party. If you’re an artist who’d like to draw/paint other flickr artists, please join the Portrait Party at: www.flickr.com/groups/portraitparty/
