March-April 2010, I intend to draw a different contemporary artist every day. I’ve been looking at the paintings of Alice Neel all week, and have tried to impart a little of her style without actually copying any particular painting.

Today’s portrait is of America musician, engineer and digital artist Dan Harris, known on flickr as Gringovitch. I love how Dan works with the accidental, the abstract, and the non-objective and somehow also combines them into images of people, birds, flowers and other recognizable subjects. He manages to get great painty brushiness while working digitally and is not afraid of strong marks and deep colors.

You can see Dan’s artwork on his flickr imagestream: www.flickr.com/photos/40980861@N02/

And learn more about him on his website: www.danielharrismusic.com/

Fragmenti: JK Now and Then We’re having a Portrait Party on flickr – more than 100 artists drawing each other! Below is one of Dan’s portraits of me from the party.
