March-April 2010, I intend to draw a different contemporary artist every day.

Today’s artist is American Nancy McKinney, known as SedonaNan on flickr. Nancy is clearly able to render tight, technically challenging subjects such as transparent and reflective glass, shiny metal and softly textured fruits and flowers, in watercolor and colored pencil. However, these are not the images of hers that really catch and delight me. What I love in Nancy’s work are her loose, vibrant, brightly-colored illustrations of her life – from watercolor society critiques and demonstrations, to tent-event speakers, to scenes at home and around the mall – everywhere that Nancy goes, we get to go, too – and have a good time while we’re there!

You can see Nancy’s artwork on her flickr imagestream:

Julia Kay, No HatWe’re having a Portrait Party on flickr – more than 100 artists drawing each other! Here is Nancy’s portrait of me from the party. If you’re an artist who’d like to draw/paint other flickr artists, please join the Portrait Party at: www.flickr.com/groups/portraitparty/
