March-April 2010, I intend to draw a different contemporary artist every day.

Today’s artist is American Virginia Hein, who makes beautiful travel sketches, portraits, and landscapes in a variety of media including pen, watercolor, and oil pastel. I enjoy the sure accuracy of her lines, the way she uses color (sometimes only a little bit) and the vivid way she sees and portrays light. I’m in awe of her ability to compress large space onto small paper and keep all the necessary details.
