If I Designed Boots… 2010.09.01, originally uploaded by Julia Kay.

Pen/marker on paper.
Scanned… imported… color via ArtStudio on my iPod Touch and some cleanup in Photoshop on my Mac.
Shoe from observation, color from imagination.

Took longer than I expected to get all those colors into all those little spaces… doing it by hand might have been faster!

I always really disliked this art class exercise. Thought I’d try it again of my own volition… still not my favorite thing…

We were having some work done around the house, so I carefully put all these papers into a bin in a plastic bag so they wouldn’t get dirty or misplaced… and I’ve been looking for them ever since! Finally found them while looking for a fan during a recent hot spell…

Pushing the Portrait Party envelope to include this conceptual portrait… the portrait is inside the envelope.
I know of portraits that have crossed from coast to coast within the USA, and between the USA, Canada, South America and Europe. Anywhere else? Please let us know!

It’s easier for the portraits to travel than for us to do so…

Mondrian’s Luxo Lamp 2010.07.29, originally uploaded by Julia Kay.

Art Studio on my iPod Touch, Photoshop on my Mac, back to Art Studio, back to Photoshop.
I messed around with this on and off all evening.
From life/observation

I started this before we (re)watched Toy Story and I was reminded of how much I like the original Pixar animation of a Luxo lamp. I actually do own a Luxo – it was used when it was given to me more than 30 years ago and still functions great, unlike the cheaper versions which seem to come and go over the years. However, the model here was not the actual Luxo – artistic license :)

Charcoal on paper.

Wow, even with a big piece of charcoal, it really does take longer to make marks on a bigger surface!

Fun to finally make use of some smudged, dented, yellowed paper that’s been kicking around the studio for decades…
