I went on a little procedural drawing fest over the course of the day, trying out most of the procedural drawing apps I own. The only one I didn’t use today is sketchClub, which I’ve used more recently than the others. This one is:

A little cartoon-y and I had the hardest time with Jane- still haven’t got her wonderful smile. But I’m determined to stay on my 8 hrs sleep/night plan so off I go to wash the dishes and go to bed.

I’m Trying to Sleep 8 hrs Every Night. Unfortunately, this means that I have less time online…

I thought I was going to do another group portrait but that’s not how it worked out…

Congrats to all on an obviously successful meet-up!

I wasn’t able to attend but Maureen brought a poster of me so I attended ‘in absentia’ – ha! And now I’m exercising the only ‘legal’ way of sneaking a self-portrait into JKPP – by including other JKPP members in the drawing.

Many thanks to Maureen for organizing and to everyone for all the great photos, portraits and reports.

Busy week so more comments and replies soon…

From left to right, this is Martin, Neil, Anna, Erica, Marine (Miss Embe) and Dom (Mr. Flibble)

My main goal, in addition to celebrating the JKPP meet-up in London today, was to get everybody in approximately the right position on the page. This is not generally my strength, as no matter what size paper I start with, I tend to run out of room when sketching a group or scene rather than an individual animal, person or plant.

This TypeDrawing portrait of Anita Davies ( www.flickr.com/photos/anitadavies/ ), was inspired by being in the FutureCanvas show with Hansol Huh, in which my TypeDrawing portrait of him was hung next to an iPad on which everyone could play with the TypeDrawing app he designed. I spent part of the evening demonstrating the App, then it got too loud and crowded.

In any event, I think I’ve done a slightly better job this time of capturing Anita’s classic beauty, though it’s hard to compete with reality.

Today’s portrait is of artist Mike Ryon, known on flickr as flynryon. You can see his wonderful work here: www.flickr.com/photos/44812980@N06/

I have really enjoyed writing about everyone’s work when I make their portraits. However, I’ve realized that it keeps me from making portraits because of the time involved in making all the links and writing the descriptions.

So in the interest of more portraits, there’s going to be less writing. Instead, I encourage everyone to follow the link above and check out Mike’s imagestream for themselves.

It was fun to meet and break bread today with Charlotte and her friend Melanie. Mostly we talked but we also made some quick sketches of each other.

Can’t wait to see what comes out of the London meet-up this weekend!
