Today’s portrait is of German Artist Caro la Dewor. I love her keen sense of light. She depicts it beautifully whether she’s working in ink or oil pastel, drawing the long shadows at end of day or reflective puddles when skies are wet and grey.

You can see Caro’s artwork on her flickr imagestream: www.flickr.com/photos/sketchall/with/4844330560/

Gloria Rendón: 2010.11.09, originally uploaded by Julia Kay -.

Today’s portrait is of Colombian Artist Gloria Rendón, known on flickr as gloriaerre.
I love her light and good-humored touch with color and subject matter, whether she’s working digitally or traditionally, making drawings or making mosaics. Her portrait of me is one of my all-time favorites, which actually made it harder for me to draw her even though I’ve been looking forward to working from this great source photo for some time: www.flickr.com/photos/30441214@N08/4627744888/

As you can see, I’m still struggling a bit with open mouths…

Liquid Pics (LIQ) and Brushes Apps on my iPod Touch
15-30 minutes
Line drawing directly from a photo, color from imagination.

Once again, I used LIQ to distort a photo, then drew directly from the distorted photo in Brushes.

Liq & Brushes Apps on my iPod Touch.
15-30 minutes.
Directly from a photo.

Used the Liq app to distort the h— out of a photo, then drew over it in Brushes.

Liq is total trippy fun – not technically an art app – but as usual, it depends how you use it. Basically, it treats your image as if it was floating on the surface of a pool of water, and as you tilt your device, ripples distort through it.

Juxtaposer App on my iPod Touch to combine 5 images made in a variety of ways from digital to magic markers. Some cleanup in photoshop on my Mac.

15-30 minutes.
From observation, from photos, from imagination.

Inspired by the random mergings of iMated, I went back to Juxtaposer to consciously mate some of my previous portraits.

More fun with iMated App on my iPod Touch, creating wild and crazy offspring from previously made portraits.

Please ignore anything you recognize about the original subjects of these portraits – these ugly offspring are not a reflection on them.

Inspire, Art Studio & dxp Apps on my iPod Touch.
From observation, imagination, and directly from Nini’s fabulous photo of children skating, which can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/uluruminambulate/5127574635/
15-60 minutes.

I loved the shapes of the moving figures in Nini’s photo and received permission to play with them. I did 4-5 variations (different backgrounds and different blend modes in dxp) and had a hard time deciding which to upload.
