Wasabi, Brushes and Pollock Apps on my iPod Touch.
From life/observation
15 – 30 minutes

This was my third try to copy a Pollock; and I thought it was the most successful. I used Wasabi to build up the larger areas of background greys, Pollock to get the main action lines, and Brushes to do some touch ups.

Sitting in Starbucks over a tall mint tea watching the world whirl by. I was half an hour early for my train to Philadelphia to visit Chris & Rachel (and then on to Baltimore to see David & Trisha)

Early in the morning, the light was long and low, as I paused between the arrival of my plane and getting on the train out to Long Island for brunch with my aunt. Jamaica station is a big terminus with subways, buses, the Long Island Railroad and the airport shuttle all converging.

I haven’t uploaded anything since I headed east on the 19th but of course I have been drawing every day.

Today I head back home. Not quite time to head to the airport and nothing else needing to be done so I’m finally starting to upload the backlog.

Wasabi, DXP & Brushes Apps on my iPod Touch
Several sessions over several days
Directly from a photo for the shadow’s shape, everything else from imagination.

I used DXP to superimpose the shadow on my Wasabi drawing, then traced the shadow in different colors in Brushes.

This is my third drawing made by tracing the same shadow photo. (Each was made completely independently of the others)

This is a free app and a kinda fun idea, but I haven’t had much success getting anything out of it that I want to keep.

Not how I thought I was going to spend my evening but the photo was so great I could have kept going alot longer!

Today’s portrait is of Australian Artist Harry Kent, known on flickr as Art Informel. Harry works in a variety of media but what I love most are his thick, impasto, brushstroke and emotion-filled paintings of people ranging from family to famous, friends to fellow flickrites.

You can see Harry’s artwork on his flickr imagestream: www.flickr.com/photos/art_informel/

Today’s portrait is of English Artist John Holliday, known on flickr as Taffsdad. I love the feeling of freedom in John’s drawings, and the way he experiments with media, color, and styles.
